Central luzon: The Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) has rolled out its 'Libreng Sakay' (free ride) initiative to assist commuters in Central Luzon who are stranded due to heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon. This development follows President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to prepare for emergency responses this rainy season, particularly in flood-prone areas.
According to Philippines News Agency, PRO3 Director Brig. Gen. Ponce Rogelio Pe±ones Jr. announced that police units in flood-affected areas have been instructed to offer free transportation to individuals, especially students, workers, and the elderly, who are unable to access public utility vehicles. Pe±ones emphasized the program's commitment to public service during challenging times and assured that the police would continue to support citizens in need.
Marked police vehicles and mobile patrols have been dispatched to transport passengers from flooded or impassable areas to safer locations. Police personnel are ensuring safety protocols are adhered to during transport, particularly in areas with severe flooding. In addition to transportation aid, police officers are conducting patrols to prevent crimes, monitor road conditions, and collaborate with local government and rescue units.
Pe±ones highlighted that the welfare of citizens remains a priority for PRO3, stating, "We are not just peacekeepers; we are partners in safety, security, and compassion." He encouraged the public to seek assistance from police stations or personnel during emergencies or when transport help is needed due to adverse weather.
Furthermore, Pe±ones reported a decline in crime incidents in Central Luzon, with a reduction of 152 cases over the last 30 days. Focus crimes also decreased significantly, reflecting the region's proactive approach to law enforcement. In the fight against illegal drugs, 559 operations resulted in the arrest of 846 individuals and the seizure of significant quantities of shabu and marijuana.
Additionally, 759 wanted persons have been apprehended, including high-profile targets. The campaign against loose firearms saw the confiscation and recovery of numerous weapons. Pe±ones, demonstrating commitment to enhancing police capabilities, donated surveillance drones and distributed handheld radios to police units.
Pe±ones concluded by affirming the PRO3's dedication to serving the public with integrity and urgency, emphasizing a modernized and responsive approach to community needs.
