Manila: The Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino best-of-three title series is set to commence on Tuesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, with Creamline aiming to uphold its legacy while Petro Gazz seeks to make its mark in history. Game time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
According to Philippines News Agency, the Cool Smashers, led by stalwarts such as Bernadeth Pons, Tots Carlos, Alyssa Valdez, Jema Galanza, Bea de Leon, Pangs Panaga, and Kyle Negrito, are resolute in their quest to maintain their dominance. Despite a setback against Petro Gazz in the semifinals, where they lost 23-25, 22-25, 25-21, 16-25, Creamline bounced back with decisive victories over Akari (25-18, 25-19, 25-19) and Choco Mucho (25-19, 25-15, 25-15) to secure their spot in the championship round.
"We won't go down easily. We're just doing our job. We want to defend the crown," stated Creamline head coach Sherwin Meneses, emphasizing the team's determination.
Petro Gazz, buoyed by its remarkable victory over Creamline, advanced to the Finals after sweeping Akari (25-22, 25-20, 25-18) and Choco Mucho (24-26, 25-18, 25-17, 27-25). The Angels are driven to seek redemption following their defeat to the Cool Smashers in the 2023 title clash.
With key players like Brooke Van Sickle, Myla Pablo, MJ Phillips, and Jonah Sabete, Petro Gazz is expected to exert maximum effort to dethrone the reigning champions. "This will be our toughest Finals yet. Petro Gazz is complete, healthy, and hungry. But we'll fight with everything we've got to keep the crown," noted Valdez.
Meneses echoed the sentiment, stating, "Of course, we're Creamline - we won't go down without a fight. Our No. 1 goal is to defend the crown."
Creamline boasts an impressive record, having won 10 titles in 13 Finals appearances, including a sweep of the last four PVL crowns. Meanwhile, Choco Mucho and Akari are set to vie for third place in their own best-of-three series, commencing at 4 p.m.
