DA-BPI partners with WorldVeg to further develop agri sector

The Department of Agriculture (DA), through the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI), and the World Vegetable Center (WorldVeg), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to work together and form a collaborative alliance to further develop the agricultural sector. DA Senior Undersecretary Domingo Panganiban, BPI Director Gerald Glenn Panganiban, and WorldVeg Director General Marco C.S. Wopereis signed the MOU Wednesday at the National Seed Industry Council (NSIC) Conference Room in Malate, Manila, according to a BPI news release on Thursday. The DA said the objective of the agreement is to strengthen the partnership between BPI and WorldVeg to carry out effective research and development activities, promote capacity development initiatives, conduct of trainings/workshops and facilitate the exchange of information and technology. It noted that the MOU signifies the commitment of both parties in promoting food security in the country by making the food system more diverse, sustainable and environmentally friendly. The DA also sad that part of the commitment is to promote the adoption of best practices in farming and manufacturing.
