Davao: Davao Light and Power Co. (Davao Light) inaugurated its 29th distribution substation on Tuesday in Barangay San Pedro here, a 10-megavolt-ampere (MVA) facility designed to meet the power demands of the 63-hectare Anflo Industrial Estate (AIE), a Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA)-accredited agro-industrial park. Davao Light president and chief operations officer Enriczar Tia disclosed that the 10 MVA 69/13.8 kilovolt (kV) San Pedro Substation was energized on August 2 and successfully loaded on August 8.

According to Philippines News Agency, the San Pedro Substation is vital in powering the economic engines in the AIE, Panabo, and neighboring areas. It is the fourth substation in the city, expanding power capacity across the city and nearby communities. Tia highlighted that by strengthening the power grid in Davao del Norte, the company is ensuring reliable electricity for businesses and communities while providing the capacity needed to support growth in the area.

The project is part of Davao Light's ongoing network upgrading and expansion to meet rising demand across its franchise area. The inauguration marks the completion of Phase 1, with Phase 2 set for completion by December 2027, adding 33 MVA capacity. Once finished, the facility will operate as a fully digital substation with automated monitoring and real-time data transmission, enabling engineers to quickly identify and resolve issues.

The substation will also integrate sustainable features, including a solar power system for lighting and a rainwater harvesting system for maintenance needs. Tia emphasized that this milestone reflects Davao Light's continuing investment in a stronger and more resilient distribution network to meet the evolving needs of the communities they serve.
