Davao Oriental Quake Victims Receive Modular Housing Units

Davao oriental: The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) 11 in the Davao Region handed over 25 modular housing units valued at PHP4.3 million to families impacted by last year's earthquake in this town on Wednesday. These temporary housing units, each costing PHP175,000, are now ready for occupancy.

According to Philippines News Agency, DHSUD-11 Director Norman Doral stated that some beneficiaries have already begun collecting their keys and expressed satisfaction with having a secure place to reside after months of uncertainty. The modular units will serve as temporary homes until the affected areas are deemed safe for permanent habitation.

Doral noted that families still have the opportunity to acquire permanent housing. He mentioned that the Office of Civil Defense and the National Housing Authority are also working on projects that may offer funding for permanent residences. This initiative exemplifies the collaborative efforts of the national government, led by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., in providing timely assistance during emergencies.

The modular housing units are specifically designed for emergency situations and offer a temporary yet more comfortable alternative compared to tents, which are often inadequate for long-term living.

Beneficiaries such as Predeswinda Magtana and Miriam A±ora expressed their appreciation for the support provided by the President. Magtana recalled the destruction of her home during the October 2025 earthquake, emphasizing the relief and comfort the new modular housing brings after enduring months in makeshift shelters.
