Davao Region Police Warns Against Effigy Burning During SONA

Davao: The Police Regional Office-Davao Region (PRO-11) has issued a warning to protesters planning to burn effigies of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. during his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA).

According to Philippines News Agency, PRO-11 emphasized that individuals engaging in such activities will be charged under Republic Act Nos. 9003, the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act, and 8749, the Clean Air Act. The police office affirmed its respect for the public's right to free expression but stressed its commitment to maintaining community safety.

The statement from PRO-11 highlighted their readiness to take legal action against any individuals or groups that might endanger the community. They urged the public to prioritize safety by watching the SONA from their homes, emphasizing the importance of staying informed on national matters.

PRO-11's advisory comes as a call for safety and lawful conduct during the national event, encouraging citizens to remain vigilant while exercising their rights.
