Manila: The City Veterinarian's Office (CVO) announced that it administered free anti-rabies vaccinations to 39,064 cats and dogs from January to March. Dr. Maria Corazon Sepulveda, officer in charge of the CVO, shared in an interview through the City Information Office that their annual target is to vaccinate more than 140,000 pets.

According to Philippine News Agency, Dr. Sepulveda provided a breakdown of the vaccinations, noting that 9,075 animals were vaccinated in January, 14,758 in February, and 15,231 in March. The CVO also assisted 4,361 clients in January, 6,776 in February, and 7,391 in March. In the previous year, the office served 77,493 clients and vaccinated 156,817 animals.

Dr. Sepulveda emphasized that the Intensified Rabies Control Program is not limited to vaccinations. The program includes free castration services and community awareness campaigns. Additionally, the CVO is focusing on responsible pet ownership by developing an educational module, particularly aimed at schools.

The CVO has planned a series of free services in various barangays throughout April. These activities will include castration drives and information, education, and communication (IEC) campaigns focusing on animal welfare for cats and dogs. Large cattle in select barangays will receive pregnancy diagnosis/synchronization and artificial insemination services.

From April 15-30, the Davao City Animal Disease and Diagnostic Laboratory will engage in laboratory work and sample collection within the city's pounds and slaughterhouses.
