Davao’s Cardava Bananas Exported to Saudi Arabia

Davao: An initial 20-ton shipment of Cardava bananas to Saudi Arabia will depart on June 26, the Department of Agriculture in Davao Region (DA-11) said Wednesday. The shipment, comprising 1,540 boxes of 13 kg. each, is expected to arrive in 35 days and is handled by GERB Golden Hands Corporation, an accredited exporter.

According to Philippines News Agency, this export milestone is a result of the International Expo attended in Dubai last year, specifically the AGRA Middle East Exhibition. Macario Gonzaga, DA-11 regional director, mentioned in an interview that GERB Corp.'s participation in the expo facilitated the market linkage necessary for this venture.

The supply of bananas was sourced from the Magsasakang Progresibo Marketing Cooperative, a farmer group supported by the agency. DA-11, through its Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division, is leading this initiative to connect local producers to international markets by strategically participating in agri-trade events.

The AGRA Middle East Exhibition 2024, held at the Dubai World Trade Centre in October, showcased the agricultural community's innovation and commitment. It supported growth and sustainability while highlighting the global potential of Philippine agriculture.
