Soccsksargen: The Department of Health-Center for Health and Development in Soccsksargen (DOH-12) reported a 35 percent decrease in dengue cases from January to February 2025 compared to the same period last year. Data from the Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU) showed 1,531 dengue cases in the first two months of this year, down from 2,356 cases in 2024.
According to Philippines News Agency, Kathleen Gecosala, a senior nurse at DOH-12, urged community leaders, school officials, and non-government organizations to support dengue prevention efforts. 'Let us not be complacent. Let us do our part in fighting dengue,' she said in a statement Thursday.
However, South Cotabato province saw an increase, reporting 788 dengue cases from January 1 to February 28, 2025, up from 600 cases in the same period last year. One fatality was recorded, with 549 patients showing signs of dengue infection. Areas with high cases include Koronadal City and the towns of Polomolok, Sto. Ni±o, Surallah, Norala, and Tboli.
Dr. Camille Fugio, a senior medical officer at DOH-12, emphasized the need for 'ongoing community engagement and participation,' particularly in South Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat, to curb the spread of dengue.
