Manila: Department of Economy, Planning, and Development: Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev) Secretary Arsenio Balisacan has praised President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) as 'one of the best.'
According to Philippines News Agency, Balisacan expressed his approval during an interview at the Batasang Pambansa, highlighting the President's focus on the needs and current issues faced by ordinary Filipinos. He characterized the SONA as significant and substantive, noting its down-to-earth approach.
The President's address covered several key topics, including the expansion of government aid programs and proposed tax relief measures. Balisacan emphasized that the proposed tax relief is a high priority for the government, with hopes for its implementation within the year.
Additionally, Balisacan mentioned that the economic team is examining strategies to offset potential losses from the tax relief measures. He suggested the possibility of increasing taxes on certain unhealthy goods, although no specific solutions have been finalized as discussions continue within the Cabinet.
Balisacan also underscored the government's commitment to completing various infrastructure projects. He noted that the completion of these projects is crucial for delivering benefits to targeted groups, particularly in areas like public transportation and school building construction.
