Manila: Education Secretary Sonny Angara on Friday vowed to conduct a continuous review of classroom observations to ensure the welfare of teachers. In an interview, Angara stated that the policy has already been relaxed to prevent unnecessary pressure on educators.
According to Philippines News Agency, Angara explained that the adjustments include the removal of surprise classroom observations, which were previously a source of complaints from public school teachers regarding career promotion. These surprise visits have now been replaced with scheduled observations, allowing teachers and monitoring staff to coordinate their availability in advance.
Angara emphasized the agency's commitment to creating a more relaxed and supportive environment for educators by considering their feedback. He noted that teachers sometimes face undue pressure, and the review aims to address concerns such as the impact of a teacher's bad day on their evaluation.
The Education Secretary assured that DepEd is dedicated to applying necessary tweaks to enhance teachers' professional development without compromising their welfare. Additionally, Angara expressed condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of teacher Agnes Buenaflor from Pedro E. Diaz High School in Muntinlupa City.
The Department of Education has also pledged to provide all necessary support to affected teachers and learners, including psychosocial assistance.
