DepEd Implements System Reforms in Philippine Schools Overseas

Manila: The Department of Education (DepEd) on Friday announced its initiative to integrate system reforms in Philippine Schools Overseas (PSOs) to better prepare for the implementation of key educational changes.

According to Philippines News Agency, the reforms are part of a directive from President Bongbong Marcos, aiming to ensure that Filipino students worldwide receive an education that is both responsive to current needs and future-ready. Education Secretary Sonny Angara emphasized this commitment, stating, "We are dedicated to making sure our global learners are not left behind as we transform our curriculum."

In a virtual session titled "Online Kumustahan," held on Thursday, 35 representatives from PSOs participated to discuss the upcoming changes. These include a three-term school calendar, revised guidelines on classroom assessment and grading systems, and the Strengthened Senior High School Program.

Angara highlighted the importance of these orientations, noting their role in preparing and supporting schools for the new academic year. The goal is to enhance learning outcomes, refine flexible learning approaches, simplify lesson planning, and strengthen education during emergencies.

The DepEd's initiative also involves nationwide orientations targeting regional and division officials, school administrators, and educators to ensure widespread understanding and implementation of the reforms. A virtual session on April 7 specifically addressed educators and learners in the Middle East, focusing on key programs and government support amidst regional tensions.
