DepEd Speeds Up Setup of Learning Continuity Spaces Nationwide

Manila: The Department of Education (DepEd) on Thursday announced it has accelerated the delivery of Learning Continuity Spaces (LCS) across the country. This initiative aims to address classroom shortages and ensure uninterrupted learning, in alignment with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directives.

According to Philippines News Agency, DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara emphasized the urgency of the rollout to reinforce continuous learning, particularly in areas prone to disasters. He stated the importance of swiftly establishing safe facilities to support students' education in these vulnerable regions.

Currently, 878 prefabricated and disaster-resilient LCS units are in progress under the program's first two phases. Out of these, 34 units are completed and ready for use, while 453 are under construction, and 391 are in the procurement stage. The program is also expanding to include the procurement of two five-classroom buildings at Romana C. Acharon Elementary School and H.N. Cahilsot Central Elementary School in General Santos City, with completion anticipated within the month.

Additionally, a budget of PHP226.4 million has been allocated for constructing 109 more ready-to-assemble classrooms across seven regions nationwide. A significant portion, 83 out of 109 units, will be established in the Davao Region to support schools affected by earthquakes and aid in community recovery. These semi-permanent, modular classrooms are designed for rapid deployment, with full installation possible within four to eight weeks.
