Manila: The Department of Education (DepEd) announced on Thursday that learning will remain accessible despite the effects of natural disasters, thanks to the operation of its fully revitalized DepEd TV. This initiative follows the agency's partnership with the Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. and Solar Learning to revitalize broadcast-based learning.

According to Philippines News Agency, DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara stated that DepEd TV will be employed this year to ensure multiple learning options during disasters. "We will use the DepEd TV to make learning more accessible - especially in areas which are often hit by typhoons," Angara explained. This initiative aligns with the wider goal of the department to support President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s aspiration of ensuring continuous quality education despite calamities.

With DepEd TV operational, the agency plans to integrate programs into broadcast instructions based on the current curriculum, maintaining learning continuity without compromising the safety of learners in disaster-hit regions. DepEd TV will be accessible through various platforms, such as Digital Free TV, Cable TV, and Direct-to-Home (DTH) Satellite.

Signals will be available in several key locations including Metro Manila, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, and other major regions via the BEAM Channel 31 and SBN Channel 21 under the Digital Free TV. These channels can be accessed by scanning digital TV boxes like ABS-CBN TV Plus, EasyTV, SulitTV, and GMA Affordabox.

For Cable TV users, DepEd TV can be accessed through SkyCable on Channel 5 and Cablelink on Channel 3 in Metro Manila, Sky TV on Channel 32 in provinces, and PCTA Member Cable Operators nationwide. It is also available via Cignal on Channel 146 and on Channel 182 under the Direct-to-Home (DTH) Satellite platform.

The Knowledge Channel will broadcast 16 hours of Kinder to Grade 12 (K-12)-aligned programs, with prerecorded videos for subjects like Filipino, Math, English, Araling Panlipunan, and Science from Mondays to Sundays, including replays. These contents have been submitted to the Learning Systems Strand ahead of the full revitalized launch of DepEd TV.
