Manila: Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro has emphasized the vibrant democracy in the Philippines during a meeting with the visiting European Union (EU) mission that recently observed the 2025 May polls. Lazaro noted the significance of active electoral participation and expressed gratitude for the EU's recommendations, while advocating for stronger interparliamentary connections.
According to Philippines News Agency, the EU mission is in Manila to present its final report, which includes a comprehensive assessment and recommendations following the midterm elections. Chief Observer Marta Temido is set to present the EU Election Observer Mission Final Report to the public at a press conference on Thursday, having already delivered the report to Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chair George Garcia and the Commissioners.
The Philippine government extended an invitation to the EU to observe the entire electoral process in the May 12 elections, covering the campaign period, polling, and canvassing. The EU previously deployed 72 long-term observers and more than 100 short-term observers across all regions of the country.
