Manila: The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has issued a renewed warning to Filipino jobseekers about suspicious employment offers abroad. This warning comes as the government successfully repatriated 190 Filipinos from various scam hubs in Cambodia.
According to Philippines News Agency, the Philippine Government cautioned against overseas job offers that promise high salaries and free accommodation in roles such as customer service, call centers, or those related to artificial intelligence. These offers often result in inhumane conditions, unpaid wages, and abuse.
The 190 Filipinos were either rescued or had fled from scam compounds in Cambodia and arrived back in Manila on February 5. The DFA highlighted that the Philippine Embassy in Phnom Penh, in collaboration with the Cambodian government, facilitated the repatriation by expediting exit clearances and waiving immigration penalties.
Local authorities are actively cracking down on online scam operations in Cambodia, with several fraudulent sites reportedly shutting down voluntarily. In previous years, the Embassy repatriated 377 alleged Filipino human trafficking victims from Cambodia in 2025 and an additional 266 in January 2026.
