Caraga: The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) 13 (Caraga Region), through its Cybersecurity Bureau, has launched 'Oplan Paskong Sigurado' to protect residents from online scams and fraudulent sellers during the Christmas shopping season.
According to Philippines News Agency, the campaign is a massive information drive encouraging Caraga residents to adopt safety precautions in order to safeguard their money and personal data. The DICT-13 emphasized that with the rise of online shopping during the holiday period, scams and fraudulent sellers are becoming increasingly prevalent.
The campaign advises residents to purchase only from verified sellers and to select secure payment options. The DICT-13 recommends checking reviews, the age of the seller's website, and ensuring that legitimate contact details are provided.
To further prevent financial fraud, residents are encouraged to use credit cards or trusted payment platforms, while avoiding cash transactions or unverified payment links. The agency also cautions against deals that seem too good to be true, as extremely low prices can often be indicative of scams.
The DICT-13 also advises on website security, urging residents to avoid sites that request unnecessary personal information, in order to protect themselves from potential threats.
