DILG and Guimaras Government Recognize 27 Barangays with Seal of Good Local Governance

Guimaras: Twenty-seven top-performing barangays from the four municipalities of Guimaras have been honored with the Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangays (SGLGB), following a rigorous evaluation by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

According to Philippines News Agency, the SGLGB serves as a performance assessment tool designed to evaluate and acknowledge barangays excelling in governance areas such as transparency, disaster preparedness, peace and order, and quality service delivery. DILG Guimaras Director Roselyn Quintana explained the assessment's dual purpose of measuring performance and recognizing outstanding barangays.

The barangays that passed the provincial-level screening each received a PHP20,000 cash incentive, with an additional PHP100,000 awarded to those that succeeded in the national screening. They were also presented with a trophy to mark their achievement. The recognized barangays include Alegria, Ayangan, Concordia Norte, Oracon Norte, Ravina, Sebaste, and Tanglad from Sibunag; Cabano, Constancia, Sapal, and Sebario from San Lorenzo; Canhawan, Dolores, La Paz, San Roque, and Tando from Nueva Valencia; and Agsanayan, Getulio, New Poblacion, Old Poblacion, San Isidro, San Nicolas, San Pedro, San Roque, Tacay, Tanag, and Tinadtaran from Buenavista.

Barangay Tanag distinguished itself by passing the national SGLGB screening, earning PHP200,000 for its performance in 2023 and 2024. Agsanayan also received PHP100,000 for its 2023 achievements. The DILG, alongside the provincial government of Guimaras and the Liga ng mga Barangay, celebrated these achievements during the 33rd provincehood anniversary of Guimaras on May 22.

Quintana highlighted the importance of the performance assessment and recognition system in aiding barangays to enhance their service delivery and promote governance and integrity. She expressed hope that the awarded funds would support community development projects but emphasized that the provincial government would guide the disbursement process.

She also urged other barangays in Guimaras to strive for excellence and enhance the functionality of their barangay-based institutions to improve performance metrics. Quintana advised barangays to begin self-assessment in anticipation of evaluations by municipal local government operations officers before June, as preparations for the 2025 SGLGB are set to commence.
