DILG Eastern Visayas Pilots Regional Good Local Government Seal

Eastern visayas: The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) regional office here will pioneer the Regional Seal of Good Local Governance Champions (RSGLGC), a regional program that complements the national Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG).

According to Philippines News Agency, DILG Eastern Visayas Regional Director Arnel Agabe stated that their office will roll out the regional program by monitoring and recognizing good local governance while the SGLG is undergoing recalibration. "The RSGLGC serves as a regional mechanism that complements the national SGLG program by encouraging innovation and excellence among local government units (LGUs) in Eastern Visayas," Agabe said.

"The implementation of the RSGLGC is supported by the DILG at the national level through the Regional Institutional Development Support Program," he added. The DILG held a regional orientation on the 2025 RSGLGC indicators in Eastern Visayas last week. The orientation aimed to foster a shared understanding of the assessment indicators, assessment tools, and overall implementation guidelines of the RSGLGC.

It also sought to ensure the smooth conduct of subsequent provincial orientations across the region. Through this initiative, the DILG field office here leads a regional counterpart of the national Council for Good Local Governance, aimed at combining the expertise and resources of national government agencies in the region. The goal is to enhance LGU performance, ensure proper implementation of the SGLG, and build stronger inter-agency partnerships that foster good governance in the region.

In 2024, at least 53 LGUs in the region were recognized as passers for the SGLG, more than those that qualified for the prestigious award in 2023. The awardees include three provincial governments, five city governments, and 45 municipal governments in six provinces. The prestigious recognition highlights the dedication of the LGUs in upholding excellence, transparency, and accountability in local governance, setting a standard for sustainable development across the region, according to the DILG regional office here.

The LGUs were recognized based on their capacity to demonstrate proficiency in all 10 governance areas: financial administration and sustainability; disaster preparedness; social protection and sensitivity; health compliance and responsiveness; sustainable education; business-friendliness and competitiveness; safety, peace, and order; environmental management; tourism, heritage development, culture, and arts; and youth development. For 2025, the list of LGU passers will be out in the last quarter of the year.
