Legazpi city: Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary for Peace and Order Nestor Sanares has challenged the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Bicol to achieve 100 percent certification of drug-free and drug-cleared jails across the region.

According to Philippines News Agency, Sanares issued the challenge during his "Interfacing with the Troops" at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the BJMP Regional Office 5, where he met with BJMP personnel led by Regional Director Jail Senior Supt. Jose Gemelo Taol, DSC. The activity was attended by members of the regional command group, staff officers, provincial administrators, and district and city jail wardens from across the Bicol Region.

In his message, Sanares underscored the importance of strengthening anti-illegal drug initiatives in all jail facilities as part of the government's efforts to maintain secure, orderly, and drug-free custodial institutions. He also commended the Tabaco City District Jail for its well-maintained facilities and exemplary livelihood programs, which he said reflect the bureau's commitment to the safekeeping and rehabilitation of persons deprived of liberty (PDLs).

Sanares urged BJMP personnel to sustain reforms that enhance jail management and support the reintegration of PDLs into society through meaningful rehabilitation programs. For his part, Taol assured the DILG official that BJMP Bicol remains committed to pursuing the department's directives, particularly in intensifying measures to attain full drug-free and drug-cleared certification of all jail facilities in the region.

The interfacing served as a venue for Sanares to convey the DILG's priorities on peace and order and encourage BJMP personnel to continue delivering professional, disciplined, and responsive public service.
