LINGAYEN: The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has distributed a total of 117,161 family food packs to disaster-affected residents of Ilocos Region. According to Philippines News Agency, the distribution includes 12,723 food packs in Ilocos Norte, 1,742 in Ilocos Sur along with 1,274 non-food items, 6,581 in La Union, and 96,115 in Pangasinan with 844 non-food items. The relief efforts were aimed at residents impacted by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, Super Typhoon Leon, and Typhoon Marce in recent weeks. Each family food pack distributed contains essential items such as six kilos of rice, various canned goods, sachets of instant coffee and cereal, while non-food items include hygiene kits. The DSWD Ilocos Region is also prepared to augment relief operations with a stockpile for potential victims of Typhoon Nika. The preparedness includes approximately 59,205 family food packs valued at PHP37.9 million, 14,354 non-food items worth PHP36.3 million, and 12,144 six-liter bottled drinking w ater available at the DSWD's satellite offices. Additionally, a standby fund of PHP3 million is on hand. Psychosocial support, particularly for children, is also being provided to alleviate the stress of displacement due to these disasters, as stated by Lizzly Medina, a registered social worker and municipal link for DSWD Ilocos.
