Manila: Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon refuted claims Thursday that the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) is 'inoperative,' asserting it continues to file corruption cases despite a commissioner's resignation. Dizon rejected a statement by House Senior Deputy Minority Leader Edgar Erice, who claimed the ICI was "dead" after Commissioner Rogelio Singson's resignation.
According to Philippines News Agency, Dizon said, "I don't agree with it. We continue our job and, as you can see, the filing of cases also continues," during an inspection of the Bucana Bridge project. He noted both ICI and the Department of Public Works have filed complaints before the Office of the Ombudsman, including against senators under investigation and former DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan.
Dizon emphasized the government's commitment to addressing corruption, stating, "Kung ano ang sinabi ng Pangulo na walang sasantuhin tayo dito, kung saan ang ebidensiya, doon tayo pupunta (We will follow the President's directive that no one is untouchable here; we will follow where the evidence leads)." Additionally, Dizon mentioned that Singson has committed to assist in implementing a master plan for the country's 18 major river systems despite concluding his technical role this December.
