Davao: Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon on Wednesday ordered the fast-tracking of the ongoing repair works of public and critical infrastructure in Davao Oriental damaged by the 7.4 magnitude earthquake that hit the province last October. In a statement, the DPWH chief emphasized the importance of completing the facilities and infrastructure promptly to ensure the continuation of local government services, including responding to calamities and emergencies.

According to Philippines News Agency, Dizon conveyed the urgency as directed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., underscoring the need to expedite repairs and enhance the strength of the facilities. During his inspection, Dizon reviewed the restoration and repair efforts at Evaristo Moralizon National Vocational High School, Manay Municipal Hall, and the Davao Oriental Provincial Hospital in Cateel.

The secretary assured officials from the towns of Manay and Cateel that DPWH personnel are actively accelerating the repair work on critical public facilities to make them accessible to the public at the earliest possible time. President Marcos had previously instructed the swift repair of infrastructure, including public schools, hospitals, and municipal buildings, following the strong earthquake on October 10.
