Manila: The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) will be offering more than 2,300 job opportunities, as well as free medical and wellness services for Filipino seafarers as part of the 30th National Seafarers Day celebration on Sunday. The DMW, in a social media post on Friday, said a Mega Job Fair and Medical Mission will be held as part of the celebration to be held at the San Andres Sports Complex in Malate, Manila.
According to Philippines News Agency, Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac emphasized that the event serves as recognition of Filipino sailors and aims to open new opportunities for them and the nation. The celebration will gather approximately 21 licensed manning agencies under the theme 'Disenteng Trabaho Para sa Marinong Filipino 2025' (Decent Work for Filipino Seafarers 2025).
The job openings include ship officers, engineers, electricians, cooks, waiters, cruise staff, and other onboard positions. To streamline the process, job seekers are encouraged to pre-register online via jobfairportal.dmw.gov.ph. Applicants must download a QR code or Job Fair Pass, present it at the registration booth, and scan it upon leaving the venue to complete the process.
The DMW advised applicants to bring necessary documents, including passports, r©sum©s, diplomas, Seaman's Books, and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority certificates, and to prepare for on-the-spot interviews and skills tests.
The Philippines is recognized globally as the 'seafaring capital of the world,' supplying roughly 20 to 25 percent of the world's 1.9 million seafarers. International shipping companies consistently regard Filipinos as among the most skilled and dependable in the industry, given their training, discipline, resilience, teamwork, and strong command of English.
National Seafarers Day, celebrated every last Sunday of September, is a national day of tribute to Filipino seafarers whose work sustains global shipping and supports millions of families back home. It was established in 1996 through Proclamation 828 by then-President Fidel V. Ramos.
