DOLE Conducts Safety Orientation for High-Risk Industry Workers in Surigao del Norte

Surigao city: About 200 safety officers from the mining, construction, and electric power and distribution sectors in Surigao del Norte attended an orientation on workplace safety held on Tuesday by the Department of Labor and Employment in the Caraga Region (DOLE-13) in Surigao City.

According to Philippines News Agency, the DOLE-13 emphasized the government's goal in preventing workplace accidents and protecting the welfare of workers, particularly in high-risk industries. The capacity building initiative highlighted the shared commitment of DOLE and its partner establishments to prevent accidents in workplaces and ensure the welfare of workers.

During the orientation process, participants were equipped with essential knowledge and skills through in-depth discussions and inputs on key topics focusing on safety procedures. The discussions and inputs focused on heavy equipment operations, occupational health and mental health monitoring, and electrical safety.

The safety officers were also oriented on the key features of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation's YAKAP (Yaman ng Kalusugan Program) and the primary services of the Employees Compensation Commission. The activity emphasized the critical importance of proactive accident prevention, effective occupational health management, and strict compliance with labor standards.

The ultimate goal of gathering the safety officers of high-risk industries is to ensure that every worker returns home safe and healthy at the end of each workday.
