Manila: Private sector employees who will not be working on Independence Day, which falls on Thursday, are entitled to receive 100 percent of their salary for the day, as announced by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Wednesday.
According to Philippines News Agency, DOLE's Labor Advisory No. 08, Series of 2025, signed by Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma, specifies that employees who do not work on the holiday should still receive full pay, provided they either worked or were on paid leave the day before the holiday. If the day before the holiday is a non-working day or the employee's scheduled rest day, they are still entitled to holiday pay if they worked or were on paid leave the day immediately preceding the non-working day or rest day.
For employees who will work on Independence Day, DOLE mandates they receive 200 percent of their regular salary for the first eight hours of work. Should their work extend beyond eight hours, they are to be compensated an additional 30 percent of the hourly rate for the extra hours worked.
Furthermore, if the regular holiday coincides with the employee's rest day, an additional 30 percent of the basic wage of 200 percent is to be paid. Employees working beyond eight hours on such a day are also entitled to an additional 30 percent of the hourly rate for the extra hours worked.
