Pasay City: The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced its readiness to assist Filipino deportees from the United States. Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma confirmed that the government, under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., will support Filipinos facing deportation due to their immigration status.
According to Philippines News Agency, the announcement comes amid rising concerns over stricter US immigration policies under President Donald Trump. Trump, during his election campaign, promised a crackdown on illegal immigration and initiated his second term with several executive actions to reform US entry regulations.
Currently, twenty-four undocumented Filipinos have been deported, and approximately 80 others are in the deportation process. Laguesma emphasized the government's preparedness, referencing previous cases, such as the deportation of hundreds of undocumented Filipino workers from Malaysia.
The administration's response will be spearheaded by the Department of Migrant Workers and the Department of Foreign Affairs, with DOLE providing additional support. The government's strategy focuses on offering reintegration, livelihood support, and other necessary services to assist returning nationals.
