Manila: The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Surigao del Sur has successfully provided temporary employment and skills training to 10,674 residents as part of its TUPAD program during the latter half of 2025.

According to Philippines News Agency, DOLE-Surigao del Sur announced in a statement that it allocated PHP46.5 million for wages, compensating individuals for 10 to 15 days of community service activities, which included clean-up drives and gardening. Workers received PHP4,530 for a 10-day work period or PHP6,525 for 15 days of service. The initiatives were aimed at contributing to environmental protection, sanitation, and the enhancement of public areas within local barangays.

One beneficiary, Dominador, a 53-year-old resident of Tandag City, expressed that the earnings from 15 days of coastal clean-up were a significant aid to his family's financial situation. Similarly, Josephine, a 36-year-old from Tago town, appreciated the skills training she received during her employment period. Through a collaboration with TESDA, participants were able to acquire skills in rug making, massage, napkin folding, and pastillas making. Josephine mentioned that her family is now considering pursuing rug making as a livelihood opportunity.
