Manila: The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will implement two programs this week for workers who were affected by the severe weather disturbances experienced in several regions last week. Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma said the DOLE regional offices have conducted profiling of workers in some areas affected by flooding due to Tropical Storms Crising and Dante and Typhoon Emong, as well as the southwest monsoon.
According to Philippines News Agency, Secretary Laguesma emphasized that despite the challenging weather conditions, DOLE frontliners have been reaching out to those impacted by the natural disasters. They have already completed the profiling process, enabling the prompt implementation of aid programs as weather conditions improve. The programs aim to provide emergency employment and livelihood assistance to affected workers.
Laguesma outlined that the first program involves offering temporary emergency employment, wherein affected individuals can engage in community work for 10 to 30 days. This initiative is particularly focused on disaster recovery efforts, allowing participants to help rehabilitate and improve their communities. The second program will explore avenues to assist affected workers in regaining their livelihoods, providing much-needed relief to those impacted by the recent weather disturbances.
The adverse weather caused significant flooding and infrastructure damage across multiple regions, including the Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, National Capital Region, Calabarzon, and Zamboanga Peninsula.
