DOT Chief Honors Heroes, Hails Daily Acts of Service in Tourism

Manila: Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco has urged Filipinos to reflect on the many faces of heroism that continue to shape the country, past and present, as the nation commemorates its heroes. In a statement Monday, Frasco emphasized that heroism is not only found in history books but also in the daily sacrifices and quiet acts of service of ordinary Filipinos.

According to Philippines News Agency, Frasco highlighted that heroism lives on in the resilience of the Filipino people. She noted that in the tourism industry, heroism takes many forms, including the tour guide who shares the nation's story, the hospitality worker who welcomes guests, the boat operator who showcases the islands' wonders, the small business owner who offers cultural memories through every tourist's purchase, and the communities safeguarding the country's natural treasures.

She described their work as the heart of the Filipino people that uplifts the nation, even though they may not wear medals of recognition. Frasco drew parallels between the country's ancestors who fought for independence and the modern-day heroes in the tourism industry, who carry forward the same spirit of service and love for the Philippines.

"This day reminds us that true heroism is about giving of oneself for freedom, for country, and for the greater good," she expressed, hoping that these heroes' courage and devotion inspire Filipinos to build a future where every act of service strengthens a prouder and more united Philippines.
