Manila: The Department of Tourism (DOT) on Thursday reminded foreign tourists to be mindful of their behavior and respect the locals when visiting the Philippines. 'As the Philippines warmly welcomes guests from around the world, it is essential that they respect our people and our culture and comply with our laws during their stay,' Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco said in a statement.
According to Philippines News Agency, the DOT has emphasized the importance of respecting Filipino culture and laws. 'The Philippines is renowned for its friendly and hospitable people, and this is a key part of the unique Philippine experience that we offer to travelers. It is imperative that this generosity is met with respect.' The department condemns any form of abusive behavior by tourists, whether it is disrespecting the Filipino culture or violating the rights of individuals.
Frasco commended the swift and decisive action of the Philippine National Police and the Bureau of Immigration (BI) in the arrest of Zdorovetskiy, who was caught on video harassing Filipinos at the Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig. 'This underscores the government's unwavering determination in upholding our nation's laws and ensuring public safety, in line with our shared commitment to protecting the dignity and rights of every Filipino,' she said.
In a viral post circulating on X, Zdorovetskiy was seen approaching a woman apparently to give her money. When she declined and walked past him, Vitaly accused the woman-visibly wearing a mask-of having 'Covid' (coronavirus disease) and then went on calling her a 'liberal f---' and telling her to 'get your vaccine.'
Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Director, Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III, reported that the foreigner was apprehended along the Seaside Boulevard in Pasay City on Wednesday based on the mission order for undesirability from the BI. The foreigner was turned over to the BI's detention facility inside Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan, Taguig City while awaiting deportation proceedings.
