Manila: The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) have announced the reopening of land and air transport hubs as Typhoon Uwan weakened over the West Philippine Sea.
According to Philippines News Agency, the DOTr lifted all travel suspensions but emphasized the importance of maintaining the safety of passengers, drivers, conductors, and public utility vehicles (PUVs). Transport service entities have been advised to take precautionary measures as they resume operations in provinces and cities.
DOTr acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez made a visit to the bus terminals in Legarda, Manila, following President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to ensure commuter safety while the typhoon remains within the Philippine Area of Responsibility. Lopez assessed the situation of stranded passengers at the terminals of the Florida Bus Company and Victory Liner, reiterating the President's instructions to prioritize passenger safety.
Meanwhile, the Para±aque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) and the Batangas City Grand Terminal have also resumed several previously suspended bus trips. On the aviation front, CAAP announced the lifting of its 'Notice to Airmen (NOTAM)' and the resumption of normal operations at several airports, including Bicol International, Masbate, Naga, Virac, Daet, and Cauayan.
However, Baguio Airport has reopened with the suspension of Visual Flight Rules (VFR) due to poor visibility caused by heavy rains. Operations remain suspended at Bulan, Bacon, Sangley, Plaridel, Iba, and Subic airports. CAAP continues to monitor the situation and coordinate with concerned airports for updates on the resumption of operations.
