Siargao: Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon has ordered the immediate expansion of Siargao Airport to address passenger congestion. In line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s order to improve the travel experience for all passengers, Dizon said he ordered the removal of the airport's VIP lounge to provide more space for passengers, and other improvements in the tourist gateway.
According to Philippines News Agency, Filipinos and tourists alike are experiencing cramped and hot conditions at the airport. Dizon stated that the removal of the VIP lounge would free up space for passengers. This statement followed an inspection of the airport on Sunday.
Additionally, Dizon directed the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) to remove a redundant X-ray machine to accelerate security checks. He also ordered the construction of a modular expansion for the airport's passenger terminal building to accommodate the increasing number of passengers from its 17 daily flights.
To support Siargao Airport's transformation into an international gateway, Dizon urged CAAP to accelerate plans to extend the runway and construct a new passenger terminal. He emphasized the importance of monitoring the expansion and renovation of Siargao Airport to enhance its role as a top tourist destination in the country.
