Manila: The Department of Transportation (DOTr), through the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB), has directed all airlines to provide timely and accurate updates on flight statuses. This directive aims to mitigate the 'significant inconvenience to passengers' caused by delayed announcements regarding flight changes, delays, or cancellations, which can disrupt pre-arranged plans and lead to additional expenses for meals or accommodations.
According to Philippines News Agency, this move aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to ensure a convenient and hassle-free air travel experience for all Filipinos. The DOTr emphasized this commitment in a recent statement, underscoring the importance of passenger satisfaction and service quality in the aviation sector.
An advisory signed by CAB Executive Director Carmelo Arcilla highlighted the obligation of airlines to fulfill passengers' rights to receive the full value of their service purchase. Sections 8 to 11 of the Air Passenger Bill of Rights mandate that passengers must receive accurate information regarding their flight statuses and be promptly notified of any changes, delays, or cancellations.
Arcilla also reminded airlines of their responsibility to ensure passenger convenience and to 'extend all possible assistance to passengers who may be affected by such changes.' The directive is aimed at enhancing the overall travel experience for passengers and ensuring that airlines adhere to established standards of service.
