Manila: Private sector employees who will report for work on June 6, a regular holiday in observance of Eid'l Adha (Feast of Sacrifice), are entitled to receive 200 percent of their salaries for eight hours of work.
According to Philippines News Agency, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) stated in an advisory on Thursday that those who will not report for work are entitled to receive the full amount of their daily pay, provided that the employee reports to work or is on leave of absence with pay on the day immediately preceding the regular holiday.
The advisory further explained that if the day immediately preceding the regular holiday is a non-working day in the establishment or the scheduled rest day of the employee, holiday pay will still be applicable if the employee reports to work or is on leave of absence with pay on the day immediately preceding the non-working day or rest day. The calculation for this is based on the employee's basic wage.
For work exceeding eight hours, employers are required to compensate employees with an additional 30 percent of the hourly rate on that day. This is calculated as the hourly rate of the basic wage multiplied by 200 percent and then by 130 percent, factoring in the number of hours worked.
If the regular holiday coincides with the employee's rest day, an additional 30 percent of the basic wage of 200 percent is to be paid. Should work extend beyond eight hours on such a day, the employee is entitled to an additional 30 percent of the hourly rate, calculated using the formula: hourly rate of the basic wage multiplied by 200 percent, 130 percent, and another 130 percent, multiplied by the number of hours worked.
This announcement follows President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s issuance of Proclamation No. 911, declaring June 6, 2025, a regular holiday across the country in celebration of Eid'l Adha.
