DPWH Cleared 9.4K Cubic Meters of Drainage and Waterways in Metro Manila

Manila: The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has successfully cleared approximately 9,489 cubic meters of drainage and waterways in Metro Manila through declogging and desilting operations.

According to Philippines News Agency, these operations are part of the 'Oplan Kontra Baha' program, following directives from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to mitigate flooding and ensure public safety. As of the third week of December, the department reported that they have declogged over 2,531 cubic meters of drainage systems, achieving about 58.4 percent of their target.

In addition, 6,958 cubic meters of waterways have been desilted across various areas in the metropolis. The activities encompass cleaning esteros, dredging and hauling spoils, clearing drainage inlets and laterals, manually declogging drainage lines, and desilting waterways to ensure smooth water flow along Metro Manila's main roads.

The DPWH assured the public that it will continue to work with District Regional Offices under the Oplan Kontra Baha to strengthen flood prevention measures, aiming to maintain safe and orderly communities.
