Quezon city: The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) continues to visit flood control projects in Metro Manila, in compliance with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., to finish projects that will reduce flooding during the rainy season.
According to Philippines News Agency, DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon, along with Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte and Project Noah Executive Director Dr. Mahar Lagmay, visited the Matalahib Creek Pumping Station in Barangays Talayan and Sto. Domingo in Quezon City on Monday, a month after his initial visit to the project. He noted that the upstream and downstream gates of the facility would be torn down for faster and continuous flow of water, as the gates obstruct the natural flow of water toward the San Juan River, the main cause of flooding in Barangay Talayan.
Barangay Talayan is among the low-lying areas along San Juan River, which is prone to overflow flooding when it backflows from the junction with Pasig River. Dizon added that the President ordered to ensure the speedy completion of the project, which is expected to help alleviate the year-long floodwaters in the area during heavy downpour.
Meanwhile, the DPWH chief is set to conduct an inspection of F. Manalo and Daan Pasig Bridges on Tuesday. He will be accompanied by Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto and other local officials.
