DPWH Inaugurates P68-Million Bridge Enhancing Connectivity in Sarangani.

KORONADAL CITY: The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 12 (Soccsksargen) officially turned over the PHP68.7 million Buntalan Bridge in Malungon, Sarangani province, on Wednesday, enhancing connectivity between far-flung communities and nearby towns. According to Philippines News Agency, the DPWH Sarangani District Engineering Office announced that the 60-meter concrete bridge was constructed under the 2024 General Appropriations Act. It serves as a vital link connecting at least seven barangays to Malungon's Poblacion through the Sta. Maria Bypass Road. The infrastructure project also includes approaches and a flood control structure, ensuring the bridge's longevity and resilience. DPWH-Sarangani District Engineer Rey Francisco emphasized the transformative impact of the bridge on the local economy. "The bridge will transform the local economic landscape by connecting the barangays of Upper and Lower Mainit, San Juan, Upper Lumabat, Banamin, San Roque, and San Miguel. It will improve mobility an d accessibility for the local population," Francisco noted. He further explained that the bridge facilitates easier access to the neighboring town of Sta. Maria in Davao Occidental, which is expected to foster trade and economic growth in the region. Francisco assured that the bridge was built to the highest standards to withstand disasters, highlighting its durability. "This project aims to reduce transportation and logistics costs, benefiting local traders and farmers while opening new business opportunities for the surrounding communities," Francisco added. The turnover ceremony was attended by Representative Steve Solon of Sarangani's Lone District and Malungon Mayor Maria Theresa Constantino. The bridge, now under the care of the Malungon local government, is anticipated to bolster economic and social development in the region.
