Manila: The effects of Severe Tropical Storm Crising and the enhanced southwest monsoon have so far resulted in over PHP500 million worth of damage to infrastructure, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reported Monday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the DPWH announced that the partial cost of damage to infrastructure is estimated at PHP526.81 million in Western Visayas and the Negros Island Region as of 6 a.m. The damage assessment includes costs to national roads, bridges, and flood control structures, amounting to PHP195.52 million, PHP9.04 million, and PHP322.25 million, respectively. In the aftermath of the severe weather, several national road sections remain impassable. Notably, Kennon Road in Camp 6, Tuba, Benguet, is closed due to soil collapse. Additionally, three road sections have limited access: the Apayao (Calanasan)-Ilocos Norte Road in Tanglagan, Calanasan, Apayao, is affected by high water elevation; the Claveria-Calanasan-Flora-Lasam Road in Barangay Ninoy, Calanasan, Apayao, has a road cut; and the Liloy-Siocon Road in Tubongon, Baliguian, Zamboanga del Norte, is impacted by a landslide.

Other road sections with restricted access include the Bigaa-Plaridel via Bulacan and Malolos Road in Barangay Panginay, Balagtas (Bigaa), Bulacan, which is passable only to heavy vehicles due to flooding; the Bato Bridge along Amungan-Palauig-Banlog Road in Barangay Bato, Palauig, Zambales, which is passable to light vehicles only as a precautionary measure; and the Diokno Highway, K0087+020, in Batangas, which is passable to light vehicles only due to a road slip.

The DPWH further reported that 12 national road sections that had been closed due to the adverse weather conditions have now been reopened.
