San juan city: The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is set to submit next week the list of all completed and ongoing flood control projects in the country since 2022 to President Ferdinand R. According to Philippines News Agency, Marcos Jr. DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan stated that they are in the process of consolidating data from various District Engineering Offices and Regional Offices regarding all flood control projects initiated under the current administration.
Secretary Bonoan mentioned that the consolidation of data was ordered by President Marcos, and they plan to deliver the comprehensive report early next week. This announcement was made during the 2025 Post-State of the Nation Address (SONA) discussions in San Juan City. Bonoan emphasized that he has instructed all District and Regional Engineering Offices to conduct a thorough review of their respective areas to identify all flood control projects, whether completed or in progress.
Furthermore, Bonoan noted that the list would also include projects undertaken by previous administrations. When questioned about the performance of flood control projects during recent weather disturbances that led to significant flooding, he acknowledged the need to categorize these projects. He pointed out that many of the flood control projects completed during previous administrations are still operational, but they need to assess whether they require rehabilitation after enduring numerous typhoons and floods.
The DPWH chief highlighted that close to 10,000 flood control projects have been completed nationwide under the Marcos administration. Specifically, 9,800 projects have been finalized since 2022, from July 2022 to May 2025. This initiative follows President Marcos's directive during his 4th SONA last Monday, where he instructed the DPWH to provide a detailed list of completed and ongoing flood control projects to address and eliminate corruption in the implementation of such infrastructure projects.
