Pampanga: Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Undersecretary Arrey Perez has resigned amid the allegations of Batangas 1st District Rep. Leandro Leviste on his alleged connection with a contractor. In a press conference in Pampanga on Friday, DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon said he has accepted the irrevocable resignation of Perez as undersecretary for Operations in charge of Convergence Projects and Technical Services.
According to Philippines News Agency, Dizon stated, "He didn't want to be a hindrance. He didn't want to be a cause of distraction. He tendered his irrevocable resignation and I accepted it." Dizon emphasized that Perez is no longer part of the DPWH and noted that Perez took the initiative in resigning. Perez had recently been appointed as one of the five DPWH undersecretaries on September 29.
Dizon confirmed that the investigation into the allegations will continue despite Perez's resignation. "Just because he resigned, we will no longer investigate. He would still be investigated," Dizon remarked. He highlighted that the department's fight against corruption is rooted in facts and transparency, stating, "We can't hold them accountable if the basis is speculation."
Dizon reassured hardworking and efficient officials and employees that they have nothing to worry about. However, he issued a stern warning to those who are not, suggesting that his commitment to addressing corruption is serious and uncompromising.
In a radio interview on Friday, Leviste mentioned his awareness of Perez's potential assignment to handle the procurement or bidding of major projects at the DPWH central office.
