Manila: The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Davao Region (DSWD-11) has released aid worth PHP228.25 million to some 47,000 families, or about 156,000 persons, affected by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake on June 8.

According to Philippines News Agency, the data revealed that 16,017 houses were damaged, with 5,277 totally destroyed and 10,740 partially damaged. Davao Occidental recorded the highest number of affected families at 36,771 or 116,625 persons, including 3,891 families inside evacuation centers and 3,079 outside.

In the municipality of Jose Abad Santos, 22,576 families or 72,552 persons were identified as affected, with 6,324 families displaced. The municipality reported 5,674 damaged houses and received PHP137.67 million in aid.

Other significantly affected areas included Sarangani, which reported 7,101 families impacted and received PHP71.82 million in assistance; Malita with 4,064 families affected and PHP9.79 million in aid; and Sta. Maria with 1,838 families and PHP2.99 million in support.

Additionally, the southwest monsoon (habagat) impacted 6,115 families or 21,912 persons in the region. At least 840 families or 2,464 persons are staying in evacuation centers, while 54 families or 155 persons are outside the centers. A total of 651 houses were reported damaged, with 504 of them totally destroyed. DSWD-11 stated that PHP6.13 million worth of assistance has been provided to monsoon-affected families, including food packs, tents, hygiene kits, and other relief items.

Tagum City accounted for 3,183 affected families, while Kiblawan and Sulop in Davao del Sur reported 73 and 286 families affected, respectively. In Davao Occidental, the town of Jose Abad Santos recorded 1,539 families affected, with more than PHP4 million in aid distributed.
