DSWD-13 Releases Social Pension to Over 5K Seniors in Bislig City

Bislig city: The ongoing payout of social pensions for qualified senior citizens in Bislig City, which began Aug. 18 and runs until Thursday, is set to benefit 5,162 recipients, providing crucial financial support for their daily needs.

According to Philippines News Agency, the release of the social pension covers the third quarter of this year, with each beneficiary receiving PHP3,000, as stated by Stephane Joy Flores, information officer for the social pension program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Caraga (DSWD-13), in an interview Thursday. She emphasized that the PHP3,000 cash assistance is intended to help seniors meet basic necessities during the quarter.

Flores noted that funds for the program were downloaded to local government units (LGUs) ahead of the payout activities to ensure smooth distribution. "It's the LGU that facilitates the release of the social pension, but the DSWD remains present to assist," she added.

From July until this month, several LGUs in Surigao del Sur have already completed their pension releases for qualified beneficiaries. Flores said these include Bayabas, Cortes, Lanuza, Tandag City, Tago, San Miguel, and Hinatuan.

"The release of the social pension provides additional financial aid to qualified senior citizens, helping them sustain daily needs and necessities," the Bislig LGU said in a separate statement Thursday.
