Daet: The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Bicol (DSWD-5) has extended financial assistance to 170 micro-entrepreneurs in the province of Camarines Norte. This initiative, part of the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), aims to support the establishment and expansion of small businesses across the region.
According to Philippines News Agency, DSWD-5 Regional Director Norman Laurio highlighted that the seed capital provided to the beneficiaries ranges from PHP10,000 to PHP15,000. This one-time grant, distributed during a payout event in Daet last December, is intended to help recipients either start or grow their micro-businesses. Laurio also mentioned that another payout is planned for January.
The financial support will assist in various entrepreneurial activities, such as community stores, hog-raising, fish vending, tailoring, welding, and vulcanizing shops. Laurio emphasized that the program targets individuals and associations with potential and a keen interest in entrepreneurship, aiming to foster sustainable economic development.
Through the SLP, DSWD-5 continues its commitment to empowering the poor, vulnerable, and marginalized communities in Bicol by providing the necessary skills and resources to improve their livelihoods and contribute to socio-economic progress.
