Manila: Solo parents will be able to enjoy free rides at the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) and the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) on Saturday in celebration of the National Solo Parents' Week.
According to Philippines News Agency, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) announced that the free train rides will be available to all solo parents in the National Capital Region (NCR). The rides can be accessed from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. by presenting solo parent identification cards or SPIC.
The initiative is part of a collaborative effort between the DSWD and the Department of Transportation to honor solo parents. It is aligned with Republic Act 11861, also known as the Expanded Solo Parents Act of 2022, which designates the third week and third Saturday of April as Solo Parents Week and National Solo Parents Day, respectively.
The Expanded Solo Parents Act of 2022 amended Republic Act 8972, or the Solo Parents' Welfare Act of 2000. The amendment aims to broaden and enhance initiatives to promote the rights of Filipino solo parents, ensuring they receive adequate social protection programs from the government.
