Cebu: Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian met with the local chief executives of Mandaue City and Cebu City Friday to check their situation and discuss the ongoing disaster relief efforts for families affected by Typhoon Tino.

According to Philippines News Agency, Gatchalian met with Mandaue City Mayor Thadeo Jovito Ouano to extend the national government's assurance of full support as directed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. Gatchalian stated in a Facebook post that DSWD stands ready to provide necessary resources, including family food packs and other essential kits, with recovery cash assistance to follow.

The DSWD chief also conferred with Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival Sr. to discuss strategies for supporting the devastated city. Gatchalian emphasized DSWD's commitment to supporting the initiatives of the city government, providing relief packs and financial assistance for recovery efforts in the affected communities.

He highlighted that the DSWD Central Visayas field office continues to manage disaster relief operations around the clock, ensuring a consistent supply of family food packs is delivered to those affected by Typhoon Tino. Personnel from the Visayas Disaster Resource Center in Mandaue City have been actively loading and dispatching relief items to various local government units in Cebu, in collaboration with other agencies such as the Bureau of Fire Protection and the Philippine Navy.

Gatchalian reaffirmed that relief operations are ongoing, in line with the Presidential directive to assist all affected communities continuously. He reiterated the DSWD's dedication to fulfilling President Marcos Jr.'s directive to provide timely aid to disaster-affected Filipinos, ensuring that public service efforts remain active at all hours to support communities in need.
