Buhi: The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Bicol (DSWD-5) has taken significant steps to enhance the financial literacy of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries through the "e-Panalo ang Kinabukasan" advocacy activity. Held at the Millennium Covered Court in Buhi, Camarines Sur, this pilot initiative aimed to empower beneficiaries with the knowledge to manage their finances using digital platforms.
According to Philippines News Agency, DSWD-5 Director Norman Laurio revealed that 163 4Ps beneficiaries, including 31 individuals from indigenous peoples (IP) communities, were chosen for the pilot implementation of e-Panalo in the Bicol Region. The program seeks to strengthen financial literacy, particularly among IP communities, by teaching participants how to use mobile banking apps, automated teller machines (ATMs), and other digital tools to access their cash grants more securely and efficiently.
Laurio emphasized the importance of this initiative in Camarines Sur, where a significant number of beneficiaries are from indigenous communities. The activity aims to promote financial independence and reduce costs and risks for beneficiaries, especially those in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas.
The pilot initiative in Camarines Sur serves as a model for future expansion to other towns in the region. Laurio stated that continuous monitoring and assessment would guide the implementation of the program moving forward.
In support of the initiative, Buhi Mayor Rey Lacoste expressed gratitude to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for the focus on community needs through programs like those offered by the DSWD. Lacoste noted the positive impact of national government initiatives at the local level.
The session included various activities such as an orientation on mobile banking and ATM usage, transaction simulations, discussions on avoiding scams, assistance with cash card concerns, and registration for GCash. An open forum was also held to address questions and concerns from beneficiaries.
