According to Philippines News Agency, while no tropical cyclone wind signals are currently in effect, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned that the enhanced southwest monsoon or 'habagat' will bring strong to gale-force wind gusts over most of Luzon, the Visayas, Region 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula), Region 10 (Northern Mindanao), and Region 11 (Davao Region) until Thursday.

"The Department has already prepositioned disaster relief supplies across strategic warehouses nationwide to ensure rapid mobilization whenever local government units request augmentation support. Kaya makakasiguro po ang publiko na handa ang DSWD to augment support sa mga lokal na pamahalaan (The public is assured that the DSWD is ready to augment support to local governments)," Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao of the DSWD's Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG) said.

The strong wind conditions are expected to persist over coastal and upland areas of Luzon, Panay Island, Negros Occidental, Northern Samar, and Davao Oriental through Friday.

As of Aug. 18, the DSWD has more than 4.12 million prepositioned family food packs (FFPs) in various warehouses nationwide, ensuring immediate response capability.

Along with the food packs, the DSWD stockpile also includes 269,608 non-food items (NFIs) and 318,450 ready-to-eat food (RTEF) items ready for distribution to affected communities.

In line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to ensure uninterrupted humanitarian assistance during calamities, the DSWD continuously monitors weather developments to safeguard vulnerable communities.

"Our regional offices remain on high alert to closely coordinate with local disaster councils and deliver immediate aid to families who may be displaced by the weather disturbance. Handa po ang pamahalaan (The government is ready)," Dumlao said.

The DSWD also reaffirmed its commitment to maintain continuous monitoring and prompt resource mobilization as the weather disturbance progresses.

'The public is reminded to be alert for instructions and announcements from their local government for appropriate safety measures,' Dumlao added.
