DSWD Ramps Up Aid Delivery to Catanduanes as Sea Travel Resumes.

Manila: With the resumption of sea travel, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Tuesday intensified its efforts to deliver family food packs (FFPs) and other relief support to Catanduanes, an island province severely impacted by Super Typhoon Pepito (international name Man-yi). The island is now accessible via water vessels, allowing the DSWD to dispatch 5,100 FFPs, as confirmed by Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG) Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao. According to Philippines News Agency, the aid delivery is a part of the 45,000 FFPs promised by Secretary Rex Gatchalian to local officials, including Catanduanes Governor Joseph Cua, during a meeting on Monday. In addition to the food packs, the DSWD also transported its Field Office 5's Mobile Command Center (MCC) via water vessel to the island. Assistant Secretary Dumlao highlighted that the MCC is deployed to enhance disaster coordination and provide services, such as enabling residents who lost electricity to access WiFi and char ge their devices. The MCCs play a crucial role in ensuring continuous, effective, and reliable emergency telecommunications support, facilitating the management of disaster reports and relief inventory. Meanwhile, the DSWD is also addressing requests for relief support from other regions affected by the typhoon. Dumlao mentioned that the provincial government of La Union has collected their requested 700 FFPs from the DSWD Field Office 1-Ilocos Region warehouse in San Fernando, La Union. Similarly, in Central Luzon, Field Office personnel have been proactive in releasing FFPs to Aurora province, where Typhoon Pepito made landfall. In Dingalan, Aurora, the DSWD provided 2,300 FFPs to families and individuals displaced during the typhoon's peak. Dumlao assured that the DSWD remains committed to replenishing, prepositioning, and delivering augmentation support to meet the immediate needs of disaster-affected Filipinos across the nation.
