Manila: The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has resumed the issuance of guarantee letters (GLs) for medical and burial assistance under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program. The GL assures payment to accredited providers of medical and burial services. DSWD Field Offices conduct the assessment for the immediate assistance.
According to Philippines News Agency, Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao stated in a release that the issuance of guarantee letters was resumed on January 5, following a commitment made in December. This move aims to ensure that qualified beneficiaries can receive crucial medical and burial assistance, particularly those experiencing severe crises. Dumlao emphasized the significant role of GLs in alleviating the challenges faced by vulnerable citizens.
While the issuance of GLs has resumed, Dumlao noted that the provision of direct cash aid under the AICS program is temporarily suspended. This suspension is in line with the existing policies of the Department of Budget and Management and will remain until funds are released under the 2026 national budget.
Dumlao assured those in crisis that assistance will promptly resume once funds are allocated. She reiterated that services continue through the GLs to prevent any delays in providing necessary aid.
For assistance, clients may visit the DSWD Crisis Intervention Unit, Social Welfare and Development Office, or Satellite Offices in their locality or region. A complete list of DSWD offices nationwide is available through the official website: https://tinyurl.com/2m75fsf4.
The DSWD also advised the public to regularly monitor its official website and verified social media accounts for further announcements and updates regarding the AICS program and other social protection services.
